Essential Information About Dental Bridges

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth using a row of crowns. The replacement teeth (pontics) are anchored by crowns cemented onto the natural teeth on either side of the gap.

When a Bridge Is the Right Choice

Bridges are ideal when the teeth on either side of the gap already need crowns, when surgery is not possible or desired, or when bone volume is too low for an implant without grafting. They are faster and less expensive than implants up front.

Types of Bridges

Traditional bridges use crowns on natural teeth on each side. Cantilever bridges anchor on just one side. Maryland bridges use a metal or porcelain framework bonded to the back of adjacent teeth. Implant-supported bridges replace multiple missing teeth using implants instead of natural anchors.

The Process

Two appointments over two to three weeks. The first visit prepares the anchor teeth and takes impressions; a temporary bridge protects them. The second visit fits, adjusts, and cements the permanent bridge.

How Long They Last

A well-made bridge typically lasts 10 to 15 years. Longevity depends on hygiene, bite forces, and the health of the anchor teeth.

Caring for Your Bridge

Brush twice daily and use floss threaders, interdental brushes, or a water flosser to clean under the pontic. Keep up with six-month cleanings to monitor the supporting teeth.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from our patients in Dubai

How much does a dental bridge cost at Anytime Dental?
The price depends on how many teeth the bridge replaces and the material used. Your dentist checks your teeth with an X-ray during a free consultation and confirms the final price before you start.
Bridge or implant: which is better for me?
It depends on the health of the nearby teeth, your jawbone and your budget. A bridge uses the teeth next to the gap for support, while an implant replaces the root on its own. Your dentist will explain the options, risks and costs for your case.
How long does a dental bridge last?
Many bridges last 10 years or more with good care, but this varies. Cleaning under the bridge every day and regular check-ups help protect the supporting teeth.
How do I clean under a bridge?
Brush twice a day and use floss threaders, interdental brushes or a water flosser to clean under the false tooth. Your dentist or hygienist can show you how.
What are the risks of a dental bridge?
The supporting teeth need to be reshaped for crowns. Possible risks include sensitivity, decay or gum disease around those teeth, and the bridge loosening or chipping over time.
